This is my first midi controller. I’m using it in Logic Pro on a mac mini M2 Pro.
I had been using my Yamaha SY99 synth as a keyboard midi trigger for some time. Excellent 72 key nicely weighted keyboard but pretty much a one trick pony.
Replacing that with the KeyLab meant I could get rid of 5 or so cables. A single USB C lead is all I need.
My first impressions are very good. The overall build quality is excellent and the MK III keyboard is excellent. I had previously tried a friend’s MK II but this has the edge.
I already owned Arturia’s V 9 Collection and the integration with Analog Lab is very good when in Arturia mode. Being able to control the main parameters of a preset is is terrific. Once Logic was setup that too worked fine. I have Synapse Audio’s Dune 3 synth installed and I found that in DAW mode, I could control at least some of the settings in Dune 3 from the keyboard. I think I can probably do some tweaking on that front once I get my head around everything.
This keyboard is simply awesome. Look carefully at the software it is paired with it. I think the offerings change from time-to-time. I use this with Logic Pro and its performance is flawless. I was able to navigate Arturia's web pages (where you get hardware updates, drivers and software) and get everything installed and setup without difficulty. Of note: This keyboard is NOT compatible with Garage Band or the trial-ware version of Logic Pro.
