This mixer offers an astounding amount of I/O and features for its price.
It's the perfect machine for my use case, as a freelance sound technician for musical theatre and small concerts. I've never felt limited by my wing compact in my 6 months of usage paired with an S16 stagebox, never a technical hiccup, never a glitch. It is extremely versatile in terms of routing, networking, control, MIDI and GPIO connectivity.
I do have criticism however, even though it does not affect my specific use case - namely:
- Show control is limited, as fading between snapshots or timed transitions are not possible (natively. This can be achieved with external MIDI control)
- USB stick compatibility is fussy and annoyingly selective. Some USB sticks will work for a while and suddenly stop after a few minutes, and there is no official list of compatible devices. They need to be formatted in FAT32 and the WING can only read .wav files with corresponding sampling rate (41.1kHz or 48kHz depending on settings)
- Sampling rate is limited to 48kHz. This does not bother me as I do not make use of latency sensitive external processing such as Waves superrack. Moreover, the PA systems in which I've deployed my WING are the true bottleneck, and the sampling rate difference with 96kHz or higher would not be distinguishable.
