So I was curious how these would sound as Steve Lukather is known for his amazing tone. Aside from the fact that most of the tone is in the hands every component of a guitar is important for its tone. So I bought both neck and bridge PUs to try. Of course this review is for the bridge position pickup in F spacing.
So it was installed on an all Padauk guitar with Brazilian rosewood fret board and stainless steel frets. Both Transition pick ups are rich in overtones but also sound tight and great definition. They have specific bite in the highs but are not shrill in any way. Very good, defined mids which are a bit different than usual humbucker but work very well in a band situation live and in recording. Transition bridge humbucker is on the high output side but actually cleans up very, very well with turning down the volume knob, or playing lighter. Which of course means it is very touch sensitive and can can support very dynamic playing. In the same time if you want wall of sound sort of approach with a lot of sustain and compression Transiton hum can do it too. A very versatile pick up but balanced and with attitude. I'm pleasantly "surprised". If Luke stays behind a product it is a guarantee for quality.
Great pickup. Fitted it into my S Prestige (Mahogany body). Rather louder pickup but very well balanced. I managed to switch between rock, blues and DTheaterish playing without any issues. Complimenting Transition Neck very well and when volume rolled out giving a bit of that stratish glassy feeling. Would definitely buy it again.
