Despite the price the sound is everything you could expect from a steel piccolo snare. Rim shots have a good crack and the snare is sensitive as befits it's shallow depth. With stock heads/snare wires the sound is ok to good but upgrading them makes it excellent and well worth the investment.
The only criticism of the hardware is the throw off which is stiff and clunky. However, once engaged the tension adjusts with ease.
