I'm an intermediate guitar player, and I'm a completely new-bee on the harmonica - 1/5 of the price of a Hohner Special 20 - how 'bad' could the HB C harmonica be?
I bought a Hohner Special 20 C too, to act as a baseline for comparison.
The HB out of the box, hole 7-10 was hard to get good tones from, and I had to use ekstra pressure on my blow/draw, in comparison to the other holes.
Playing single notes on the other hand was quite easy on hole 1-6 - to my short experience, even easier than on the Hohner.
Consulting helpfull videos - taking the harmonica apart, and making minor adjustments to the Reeds - more or less created more evenness on the blow/draw issues on hole 7-10. In all fairness, I think with some more patience and time, this can get even better - and maybe also better sounding - I will try - but ...
To my taste, the sound is not as good as the Hohner - must be the Reeds. BUT most important the shape of the cover plates does not accommodate my lips in the same gentle way as the Hohner does - and the same goes for holding the instrument between your lefthand index finger and thumb.
It comes down to playability and ergonomics.
And for me that 'issue' is a thing I think I can't fix - as I have been able to fix on a couple af budget/low cost guitars, by adjusting frets and changing strings.
I know now, that I will gladly pay 5 times the price of this harmonica, to right away get a more joyfull and pleasant playing experience and being able to play for a longer period ;)
