Review After 7 years ownership
You get so much sounds options that you will never get bored.
that's how i use it mainly:
single coil mode: fingerstyle (neck pickup only tone full) or slap with both pickup (tone half)
parallel mode: when in some venues the single coil make noise/interference.
series mode: for palm muting and bridge pickup for fast funk playing or with distortion
It's a 35" scale bass so remember to buy the appropriate extra-long strings for it. (tuning BEADG use gauge 045-065-080-100-130 and for drop tuning ADGCF use Gauges: 045 - 065 - 085 - 105 - 130)
ensure to do a proper setup and maybe a fret leveling if you like very very very low action.
be careful when you adjust the truss rod!!!!...If you strip it will need to remove the fretboard completely to replace it.
The neck is affected a bit by temperature changes/humidity even if it has neck reinforcement rods. especially in environment that fluctuate 60%- 70% humidity
Tuners are OK.
The comfort and feeling are great (4 out of 5).
I have to stretch my hand a bit as its a 35" bass scale. it can cause pain for some people.
You can choose to play with string through body or on top (It makes a small difference on sound)
top load is a bit more warner and through body is a bit more punchier.
Aesthetically I do not like the Marcus Miller name on the headstock.
Cool additional features: by opening the rear panel there is a small knob where you can select how much output you want in active mode.
String/pickup/wood/nut material choice are well balanced with no huge volume spikes when playing and recording.
How i use the EQ: passive mode with a Sadowsky sbp outboard preamp and use active mode only when slapping boosting bass and high.
The output jack needed to be replaced after one year. (Get a Switchcraft Panel Mount 1/4” TRS Jack BK).

Great Workhorse Bass - Amazing Value
I love this bass. So much bang-for-buck. Very nice ebony fretboard and polished frets with smooth rounded ends - super comfortable to play. If you take the time to dial in your tone you can get just about any sound out of this. Two humbuckers with individual toggles can be run in series, parallel, or in single-coil mode. Combined with the active/passive switch gives a massive amount of tonal versatility. Can string through body or bridge. Bridge is heavy and high quality. Body and finish are gorgeous. 100% satisfied.

Awesome bass
This bass is so versatile and sits well with any genre that I play.
For me, there's nothing more awesome sounding bass at this price point.

High-end bass at a reasonable price!
The MM M7 5 string is an excellent choice for a bassist looking to get a more professional quality instrument without breaking the bank. The sound is excellent. The humbucker pickups provide a clear sound without any buzz. The 35" scale really helps provide the necessary tension for the low B string that most 34" scale basses can't provide. Setup was almost perfect out of the box. I had to make a very slight adjustment for the intonation, but that took less than 5 minutes. Weight isn't an issue. I would say it's not the lightest bass I've played, but it's also not the heaviest. It's comfortable to me. It also seems to be balanced well as I haven't had any neck dive. The EQ and pickup settings provide for lots of different sound options. I would say this bass is suitable for any type of music. The neck plays well and is pretty fast. The transparent blue finish is gorgeous! I haven't found any flaws in the appearance. The only thing I have see is some of the plastic knobs are a bit crooked, and I don't know if it's because of the knobs themselves or the shaft on the control pot. However, they are very well secured and provide no difficulty of use when using them to adjust the pickups or the EQ. There's certainly not enough for me to reduce a star.
Overall, this is a VERY good bass that I would highly recommend.

A Modern Classic
As a professional bassist with years of experience, I can confidently say the Marcus Miller M7 5st TBL 2nd Gen is an exceptional instrument. The build quality is impeccable, solid, balanced, and immediately comfortable. Its alder body and roasted maple neck deliver a warm yet punchy tone, while the Marcus-style pickups give incredible clarity across the entire range. The tonal versatility is remarkable; it shines in slap, fingerstyle, and pick playing alike. The onboard electronics are intuitive and responsive, allowing for precise control without compromising natural resonance. For any bassist seeking a professional, reliable 5-string with outstanding sound and playability, this M7 is a true standout.
