When you're want to file you guitar nut then look no further. I had a little hessitation because on the internet people where saying that the files become blunt in no-time. I don't know what meterial they were filing but this cuts through bone, Tusk, plastic, graphtech as boter. MusicNomad emailed me and they said that they changed the grid of the thinner files so they cut easier. I would not use these on sadles. I set-up a lot of guitars including nut maintenance and after 20 guitars there is still no wear visible. Good product.
When most affordable guitars are made in Indonesia and China the need to be able to adjust your new guitars has increased dramatically. Some guitars are ok, some not - even from the same brand.
Cutting the nut is a delicate job and requires attention from the workers. So often i find the cut is not deep enough and this tool is perfect for the job. However the files come in premade sizes so if you use string thicker than the sizes of the files you need to invest more money - and the set is NOT cheap. But if the sizes fit your needs it does the job, but be careful when filing not to go too deep.
The set comes with a very nice box made in expensive materials but i still wonder why because once you unpack the 6 files the box is too small for storing all 6 files…….. ???? But of cause then you have a stylish box for picks, chewing gum or your home made smoking rolls… (!)
Combine the set with the little tool that measures and recommend the distance between the strings and the first fret to get a fair indication if you should file the nut or not (🤔)
Again, be careful…. I had to buy new nuts in order to learn to control my desire for filing deeper and deeper…..
But the box….. why ?
The file sits too deep in the yellow plastic handle. When I try to file a nut the yellow handle hits the headstock and/or the fretboard before the file can reach the nut slot. I tried it on a Les Paul and on a Fender and had this issue. I had to remove all the plastic and just weild the tiny file by itself. Unacceptable for this amount of money.
I'm happy with the results and time savings these files give me. Although one of the files lost it's edge after cutting only two nuts. I contacted MusicNomad and they sent me a replacement. Great customer service. Other files worked as intended.
