I bought this pickup as I needed a neck pickup that retains its clarity when used in high gain (like I do) settings. I find it an excellent match for its bridge counterpart (a high output twin blade pickup). I'm still going through the initial discovery period and I have not had chance to put it through the paces yet but I'm sure the pickup will cope well. So far it's suited both for valve amps and solid state ones. The fact that it is a moderate output pickup makes it an ideal match for a more powerful bridge pickup. I can see me upgrading the neck pickups in my other guitars to a Seymour Duncan SH-1N4C pickup in the not too distant future.
Bought to fit in a Fat Tele setup with an STL-1b. Fat Tele switching allows the pickup to be split and used split or full with the bridge pickup or on its own. It works superbly.
I always wondered why I couldn't nail all those great tones you hear on record until I bought this pickup. Great for screaming leads, cleans and some really dirty rhythm work, fat mids and bass yet still has enough clarity so as not to sound like mush.
I have Whole Lotta Humbucker and Jazz, this one is my favorite from 3 of them!
I don't like the long mounting "ears" and the "minus" screws, but the latter is easily fixable.
