One of the best
With this preamp module for the Synergy system, Marshall has outdone themselves. The sound is 100% like a cranked, highly exceptional example of a JCM800 head—far above your average namesake head, digital modelers, etc.
Just like other modules, there are 3 mods on the PCB that alter the circuit, offering:
1. A Plexi-like vintage option with the least amount of gain.
2. 100% factory JCM800 in the middle position.
3. A modded Marshall tone closer to a Friedman, featuring more bass, gain, and definition... this one absolutely kills.
It also features 3 tubes—one more than other modules. While it isn't my personal number one favorite module, for thrash, old-school death metal, and other styles where you don't need insane articulation, it doesn't get any better than this. Regardless, it is actually more articulate than the original head because it includes a 3-way bright switch.
It delivers that primal, organic metal sound of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, as well as vintage, classic rock, hard rock, blues, and more. The sheer width of the Marshall sound is massive. It takes pedals brilliantly and works phenomenally well with 7 and 8-string guitars!

Could not say enough to convince you...
After owning an original 1984 JCM 800 2203, after combining this module with the SYN-20IR, i had the same feeling. At a reasoneble volume also.
Forget all the modellers and sims, this is the real spirit of rock n roll in a small package.
