I'm using this as a beginners violin really. My first introduction to a violin was a disaster, as the peg box got cracked as pushed the peg in too hardon the first day, so when I saw this with geared machine heads I felt I could give the violin a second chance. I tunes up nicely, it takes a while to get it to remain tuned, but it settles down after a few tunings.
It feels nice to hold and am a lot more confident with it.
The instrument is very easy to play, and I am a beginner; it arrived with a good setup from Thomann.
The sound from the pick-up is quite 'legit' for recording purposes. The electronics - tone and volume - works well, and makes a difference. Still, you will probably need a good preamp for recording. I use line 6 hx stomp; I also tried the instrument through my accoustic gutar amplifier - Laney A1. It sounds great through it.
The build quality and the finish are perfectly OK for the price.
The accoustic sound is quite powerful. If you want to practice at home you better invest in a mute; I use Artino practice mute pm-01.
I recommend it.
