Thomann Studio Table XL Wood

Really nice studio desk with some space.
Got 8” studio monitors, 32” PC monitor, synth, rackunits, studio monitor controller and a 24” touchscreen placed on it.
Cable management is a breeze too.
Only negatives I could find is that the assembly guide doesn’t show how the correct orientation of the rack rails and that the metal meant for cable management is rather thin.
Oh, and Thomann should consider not to use UPS, the outer packaging looked horrible on arival (can clearly be seen on the photo UPS took) luckely there was only one small mark on the tableplate, so didn’t bother to make a big deal out of it.

This desk is amazing value at this price point. Very well thought out and great quality plus sturdy too.
All my "most used" 19" rack gear is right in front of me within good reach and the desk have so much space. My Ultrawide 34inch LG screen fits perfectly between the two rotatable monitor base plates.
The wooden color looks great and of high quality and they did not overlook the reversed side.
All parts is well marked and easy to setup by following the instruction manual. I did it all by myself and could easily take it apart and move it to a different room.
The adjustable height of the keyboard or synth pull- out tray will fit most keyboards and synths up to 76-keys.

If you have 88 keys, it will fit easily on the main worktop and with your mouse and computer keyboard on the second pull-out tray.

This desk will last a lifetime if you look after if it.
Build quality a 10 out of 10.
Value at this price point when compared to all others , 10 out of 10.
Looks, 10 out of 10.
Workflow, 10 out of 10.
I give this Thomann desk a 5 star rating because it covers all the needed basics that one could need in a desk with great build quality and it looks great!

This table really is THE outcome for the home-studio musician. do you want bigger? then you should get something else. for me it seems to work because i have it as a home-studio-desk, but for the real deal it's just a little too little. meaning this:
- if i could change something size-wise, i would make it 4 or 6 HE instead of 3, since there's no drawer possibility now if you have a few effect machines built in. (for example it would fit some stuff like the behringer wing-rack or the soundcrasft ui24 better as well)
- also, the thon-rack drawers of 1HE do not fit the desk. As a result they're sticking out about 10cm.
-only other complaint is that the piano-drawer feels terribly weak when pulling in or out.

The rest of it: It feels great! the wooden look and structure of the desk feels great! the hooks to put your cables/headphones are great! so, for what it is, it seems strong, fancy, and durable. i've been using it for a while now, and so far i've been very happy. great quality, just some minor things to keep in mind when you buy one!

I read the other reviews so I thought I knew what I was getting . I will try and be objective but not easy.
Here’s what I wish I’d known before buying :

The quality of the materials is extremely poor , (well below the cheapest ikea furniture I’ve used) there is no wood , all particleboard .
‘But it’s cheap so what the big deal?? It looks sexy in the photos , maybe I can get away with i’ was my thinking.

Why is the low quality of materials such a problem with this desk?

1) the top speaker shelves are held in place with wood screws - if you try to screw into particleboard it disintegrates- so if you’re thinking those top ends can be used as speaker stands - they can’t , even a light weight will tear them off.

2) particleboard cannot bear load , the top shelf sags under the weight of (only) led screens , since there is no load
Support built into the desk, it’s just a plank supported by racks only at the front - nothing at hold up the rear

3) same for the main top and the keyboard drawer , don’t lean too hard on either

Then there is the rest , there is no metal used , everything is made
From a kind of low cost metal composite material (I don’t know what it is made of but you need to know it is weak)
Why is this a problem?
As others have alluded to , the whole thing is extremely top heavy / unsturdy. There is no cross bracing so the side to side movement is really bad - I didn’t even install particularly heavy rack gear , the whole thing creaks like it’s about to collapse at the slightest touch.

I thunk if I loaded it up with proper metal heavy duty rack equipment it would snap the legs in a short time - but who knows ? How can I use a desk just waiting for the day when all my gear crashes down ..

This is the most serious problem. With no gear loaded it still lurches from side to side the moment you sit and put your elbows on it.

I think the headphone holders are very useful , maybe the best thing I can say.

If you have diy skills you could permanently reinforce the monitor shelves, add cross bracing and some kind of support especially for the top shelf , and then maybe this desk is useable . It’s important to have confidence that a desk you sit at won’t fall on you at any given moment . Know that some
Modifications are needed before you have this thing arrive at your door .

As for me, I am getting rid of mine.
