I only play pizzicato, but they sounded super dead and very uneven on my cheap bass. Could be better for arco, I don't know... I know some players like them a lot, but they just didn't work for me.
As soon as I got my new bass I took off the existing perfectly good strings to replace them with these, as I had Belcanto on my first bass and loved the sound. I play mostly classical, and mostly bowed but these strings sound really nice in pizz too.
These strings always fit very well in my bass. It is mostly for orchestra. It has a warm sound with bow and resonates amazingly in orchestral pizzicato. Strongly recommend these strings if you have not sure about what strings to take for your bass.
I absolutely loved these strings for orchestral and solo work. There definitely a staple string and i see them all over London and Dublin. They respond fast under the bow (Mozart 35) and have a great singing quality in thumb position. They took about 3 weeks to break in and then really start to play well.
They don't like changing bass though. I moved these between two bass's over a period of weeks for different gigs and after being taken on and off they started to develop a buzz and didn't respond as well but as long as your not swapping strings everything should be fine.
Super easy to play for arco, powerfull, round sound and fast to adapt (sound well as soon as you put them). Not so good for pizz. Can lack a bit of personality acording to the instrument where you are putting them.
For the price bracket these are a fantastic set of strings. Bright, good sustain, and durable. Excellent for pizz playing - jazz and folk in my case - but good arco sound too.
I love these strings. I play a bit of classical, bit of jazz adn lots of rockabilly and slap and they are lovely! They feel really slinky and sound great.
