Tone2 Icarus 3

First: Icarus sounds incredible. I use it daily. The options it gives the user to generate and manipulate waveforms and alter their spectral signature are vast. Where it falls a little short is that unlike other workhorse synths with which it is in direct competition, it limits you to three effects, which themselves have some rather limited, and occasionally ambiguous, controls.

This is the only synth I've ever encountered that gives the user 22 different possible tuning schemes (where there are slight variations from what is strictly mathematically perfect to impart a certain subtle color and mood to a track), and I've never seen anything like the options this thing has to alter the spectral qualities of a wave form. I've had immense fun so far just dragging in some old samples and resynthesizing them, changing up a few partials and creating a whole new instrument that breathes fresh life into something I'd forgotten about from years before. As far as the synthesis and filter options, this thing is a literal masterpiece.

If the developer provides the possibility to patch in more effects, especially with the ability to change routing on different oscillators, this would be a best-in-class instrument. As it is, it is a highly capable and fantastic synth with a few unfortunate limitations. I certainly do not regret buying it.
