A mixed pleasure
Warning: The Yamaha CK88 is in many ways an excellent stage piano, but unfortunately it suffers from one significant flaw: the quality of the keybed itself is not satisfactory.
After some time of use, pronounced mechanical clicking noises develop in the keys. These sounds are extremely irritating, especially when playing in quiet environments.
I have owned two units of this instrument, and both developed exactly the same issue. The first instrument, purchased in November 2024, showed the problem after less than three months of use. The retailer kindly replaced it with a brand-new unit. Nevertheless, this replacement instrument has now developed the same issue after approximately nine months of use.
From a mechanical standpoint, the keyboard now sounds like a cheap toy piano, which is completely unacceptable. When purchasing a Yamaha instrument, one expects it to last for many years—not just a few months. This is simply not good enough, and I feel obliged to warn potential buyers about this issue.
I am a classically trained pianist and have by no means subjected the instrument to rough use. It has been used for modern music, both at home and in various orchestral settings. On average, I have played it for approximately a couple of hours per day.
