I have used this for many years - playing symphonic repertoire as well in military band professionally. Gives me flexibility and a free feeling and focused/warm sound. Give it a try :)
The Bach 3 is a great option for someone looking for a darker sound, who spends most of their time playing within a normal orchestral range. If you're already on a Bach 3c or similar but find it too bright or cutting, this might well solve those problems thanks to the deeper cup. For me it's perfect when I'm sat down the line in an orchestra, with plenty of sound and weight to support the 1st Trumpet. I also find it an ideal mouthpiece for rotary trumpet work.
Pros:
Orchestral section playing
Big, dark sound
Cons:
Extreme upper register (!)
Slightly less responsive than the smaller cup 3c/3b
This is the current version of the mouthpiece used by Chris Botti. A beautiful full toned mouthpiece which works well for jazz, classical and yet will still light up in the upper register. It does reward a careful and methodical warm up routine, but high register on this piece has a special tonal character I have found on no other mouthpiece.
Highly recommended for trumpet players who are prepared to put time into a comprehensive practice regime. I think Claude Gordon would have liked this piece as well!
