Unboxing my new Deering Goodtime banjo is a great experience, - a packet from Spring Valley, CA! Whauu! Here is to the dreams and associations of the banjo in American folk music tradition. The instrument is, as always from Thomann, so well protected for transportation. The inner box of the banjo is quite retro romantic, - you almost see yourself playing banjo while paddling down the Colorado river in a canoe!
But more important: The banjo has a really nice appearance and the craftmanship is beautiful! The sound of the banjo has, like promised in the Thomann description, a beautiful warm tone. The banjo is so easy to play. I am used to play a rather heavy 5 string banjo, but this open back banjo is light and so easy to handle. I can definitely recommend this banjo for old-time banjo playing or accompanying a voice; or for every tune you might want to play on the banjo, fingerpicking or clawhammer style. It will fill your house with a beautiful warm sound and you will have a lot of fun playing this banjo. And if your family is used to your rather loud traditional fingerpicking on a heavy 5 string banjo, your family – and yourself – will definitely enjoy the more soft and warm sound of your new banjo.
