The choice is simple. Do I want to suffer damage to my cymbals? I have both a Hardcase and a Gator cymbal case. The Hardcase did not arrive with enough larger cymbal dividers. The Gator case only had tiny pads about 2 inches in diameter. I have spent a lot on high quality cymbals and I intend to keep them in the best possible condition for as long as I can. These are excellent!
These do exactly what they should but I probably would not buy again. They are very thin strips of a plastic material which don't seem very durable - I will see if they stand the test of time, I suppose.
Pretty thin - not sure how much protection they offer

I use these in my Gator cymbal hard cases. As far as I can see, the protection that these things offer is from scratches caused by the cymbals being in direct contact in the hard case. Of course, the hard case itself is what protects them from any impacts.
I don't know how much protection these actually offer and how much of it is simply peace of mind provided by the fact that when you pack your cymbals away you don't hear the metal-metal contact.
You could DIY these using slightly thicker, spongier neoprene from eBay, for example.
Just what I expected - a copy of the original foam that comes with the cymbal Hardcase. A bit pricey for a few pieces of foam, but you get the original thing and they fit just perfectly.
