Harley Benton TE-90QM Trans Red

ESTHETIC
Apart from some very minor flaws, almost invisible on the guitar that came to me, this is a true piece of beauty. Really. I may be biased by the fact that I'm nuts with curly maple and deep red stained guitars, but this one is a real pleasure to look at. The fretboard out-of-the-box was very dull-greyish and looked and felt very dry, but after having soaked it in lemon oil (Man, it was THIRSTY!) the colour went much darker and kind of decent looking. Far from exciting, but completely acceptable. Two minor flaws on its surface but nothing serious. The dots, on the other side, are just amazing and perfectly set, no flaws here, and nothing can convince me that they are NOT real abalone. Absolutely flamboyant!
FRETS
So far I can't notice any lower/higher frets, BUT... they were very dirty and were not polished very well, but after 15 min. working with steel wool they look and feel actually quite good. The edges are a bit sharp, but honestly I can't feel it while playing, so...
HARDWARE
Not particularly happy with the tuners, they are hard to action but they're precise and have no problems in keeping the guitar in tune, which means I can't really complain.
The volume and tone pots DO REALLY WORK!!! I mean, they work seamlessly and progressively from 0 to 10, a thing that's very rare even on quite costly instruments.
The strings were in very bad shape, already with stains of corrosion, and since I never liked D'Addario I changed them right away. But hey, they were nevertheless D'Addario, not some s....y no-name strings! The action out-of-the-box was set to medium, a bit higher than I like; so far no fret buzz, I have to see what happens when I lower the action to my liking. The intonation was actually almost perfect with the set of original strings, only the high E and the G string were a tiny bit flat, which was a pleasant surprise, but in any case I never consider the intonation on a brand new guitar that has travelled a few hundreds km as an issue, and since I'm going to lower the action I have to re-intonate the girl anyway, so it really doesn't matter. The bridge looks like a solid piece of work, I don't expect any problem with it.
PLAYABILITY
A little head-heavy, but nothing that a suede strap can't manage to fix.
The neck... amazing!! Perfect for me, hands down the most comfortable neck I've ever held in my hands! The satin finish makes it soooo smooth (I literally HATE the sticky feeling of especially nitro lacquering!!), it's pure silk in your hands! One piece of absolutely flawless plain maple but beautifully veined, again a pleasure to look at. I'm in love already!
SOUND
If you are looking for the famous T-type twang... forget it! The p90s have another voice... and what a voice! I absolutely love it, it actually is the sound I was trying to get from my LP'ish guitar equipped with humbuckers, also absolutely beautifully sounding PUs, but sweeter, mellower, not darker but "rounder" than this couple of raunchy, dirty, rude, biting P90s. It's Rock'n'Roll, brother, it stinks of sweat and sex and bison dumpings and apple pie like granma made! This babe means trouble, mate, serious trouble! She might never be a model for Chanel, but she's going to f..k your brain out!
