Finally a decent sounding All-in-one from Line 6
At first I hated every single factory preset, every sound had that terrible digital 'rasp' to the overdrive sounds - then I went to work.
The secret to great Helix overdrive sounds is EQ (cut above 5-6 KHz) before (and sometimes after) the loudspeaker. Also, get a good Speaker IR can add to the smoothness, I like the Orange 4x12 G12H30 IR from cabir.eu.
After using a VG-88 for many years, Helix LT is a great upgrade if you play directly into the PA. I am not really missing anything and the updates keep coming with new pedals etc. I only miss the 12 string and acoustic guitars I could have on the VG-88 with a GK-3 pickup but I an NOT going to play a Variax! The Variax sounds like a caricature drawing of the sound it is imitating....
