Quality Stingray that sounds great
StevieQ 26.05.2026
I have had a Sterling by Music Man sub RAY4 HH stingray for a few years and love it but it is very much a budget stingray. This became apparent once I bought the Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 4 Special HH FVS. As you can see both these basses feature twin humbuckers which is my personal preference. The build quality is excellent and the quality components create a warmer tone than the sub. The supplied case is specially made for stingrays with protective foam inlays inside. The bass was well packed and arrived in its case inside two boxes creating a double layer. Out of the box it played well after a tune up and intonation was good. Overall I am very happy with this bass. It's comfortable to play, looks great and has a fantastic warm tone.

Edit: After a couple of weeks, once the bass had settled down, clanging noise became noticeable on the lower frets across all strings. The truss rod was easily adjusted using the supplied tool until the noise disappeared and now it plays fine. Sounds great and still happy.
