A marked improvement on my 45 (!) year old original Selmer mouthpiece (I have the old version of the Selmer low C instrument), noticeably in the upper register. Plus it is easy to play ridiculously high notes (in tune) up to the C beyond the conventional 'top' notes F and G. Needs a bit more power in the air blown down the instrument than before but that is just an observation not a criticism.
I have purchased this mouthpiece for both my Eb and Bb clarinet. I recently got back into playing the bass clarinet after an extended break and wanted something that gave a bit more stability throughout the instruments range. The BD5 certainly has given me that. My Bass I use is the same instrument as the Kessler Custom 2 low C but with a different brand on it. It has made that instrument play so much better and altissimo notes are no issue at all they are clear and clean sounding. The sound in the lower register where it felt a little weak are now dark and rich sounding. There is plenty of control over the sound available with this mouthpiece and it does seem to require less air to do this. Overall just an excellent purchase and worth the money. Paired with a vandoren V21 strength 3 works really well.
