Waldorf Iridium Core

Virkelig lækker synthesizer, der er let at betjene, og som er bygget i virkelig god kvalitet. Jeg har læst om flere rædselshistorier om dårlig reviews af Iridium, hvor nogle har crashes og flimsy kvalitet, men det er virkelig ikke tilfældet med den jeg har modtaget. Den er bygget som en tank, har lille fodaftryk, og lyder sublim. Eneste weakpoint er nok dens strømforsyning, der ligner at man hurtigt kan komme til at bøje nogle af dens "tænder".

Jeg mangler ikke controls, selvom det var et af de punkter, hvor jeg var tøvende ift. om jeg nu skulle bestille den større desktop udgave eller ej. Touchscreenen fungerer rigtig fint, og det er hurtigt at mappe de knobs du har i bunden.

Jeg sidder og sammenligner den med min Hydrasynth, der sidder ved siden af den, og Hydrasynths UI vil jeg betragte som best-in-class. Iridium kommer på en 4/5, og det skyldes mest af alt at der fortsat er nogle børnesygdomme i UI'en. Fx når man skal gemme en patch, så er det lidt kringlet ift den tekst, man præsenteres for, ligesom du også bliver præsenteret med forkert tekst, når du skal mappe en modulation ("turn the LFO you want to assign" (spoiler: du har ingen knobs der er dedikerede til LFO). Med lidt firmware opdateringer er jeg sikker på den er lige i skabet.

Long story short: sublim synth, der bliver ved at spytte patches ud gang på gang. Når jeg spekulerer om jeg mon kan gøre noget, så er svaret typisk "ja".

First, the elephant in the room...
In my opinion the Iridium Core is far from a VST in a box. With that said, I have this question: If there were say 200 factory presets as apposed to 1700, would you still consider this a VST in a box?

The fact that the Iridium has about 1700 presets is a big plus. Yes, this includes a number of presets which you won't want to hear, but there are many good to great presets included here. One can always start with an initial patch, but many of the factory presets provide an excellent starting point from where you can tweak minimally to heavily in order to create a new custom preset, with ample opportunity to discover a "happy accident".

My biggest reservations for not quickly adding the Core to my studio was lack of physical knobs/encoders, and wondering if the sound would be too digital.

Firstly, after getting use to the Core's UI, I find it totally intuitive to operate this synthesizer. there are so many functions, and almost all are easy to find and manipulate various settings. I am glad that there are several knobs to work with, and for navigation, they function beautifully with the 8 push buttons above the main screen.

Yes, this is a very digital sounding instrument, but with the most power and options than any other digital synth I have worked with. For me, each of the 5 sound generators are very good, with major strength in wavetable and FM sounds. With little tweaking, it's possible to at least add grit to the digital smoothness; however I wouldn't say to the point of an authentic analog filter sound.

If it's purely analog that you want, then the Iridium Core is not it. The Groove Synthesis 8M will be released in Europe soon, and in a remarkably similar form factor package, (plus a few more knobs)! My ideal studio has both the Core and the 8M.

Edit: Correction - The Groove Synthesis does not compare because of the highly disappointing cost; €350 more than the Core. I will stick with just the Core.

Its awsome, dont get too hung up on the presets...its capacity rivals Serum or Pigments or more...yet different then those, i had it for a year now and i would say the soundquality and clarity is way beyond anything that came before it and its only weak point is the lo mid and Bass register...it sounds digital and sharp, precise..nut with the added EQ it can be made punchy as well, altho i go elsewhere for fat analog bass that does not matter so much here..its great at what id does and almost limitless in the sounds it can generate...modern classic that is getting more and more deserved reckognition i think....i would buy it again immediatly if mine broke down, which it has not...never froze or gave me any issues yet.

Der ursprüngliche Iridium ist mir einfach zu groß. Habe nicht viel Platz und daher kam der Core genau richtig.

Die Reduktion auf 12 Stimmen reicht mir vollkommen. Komme sonst auch mit 8 stimmigen Synths aus.

Zum Sound gibt es genug zu lesen. Die Modulationsmöglichkeiten sind der Wahnsinn und die MPE Fähigkeit war eines der Kaufkriterien.

Die Sorge im Netz (z.B. in YouTube Kommentaren) war groß, dass die Bedienung mieser ist als beim großen Iridium. Warum soll man denn Core überhaupt kaufen wenn man weniger Hands on Kontrolle und keine Regler pro Funktion hat?

Nicht jeder hat unendlich viel Platz und ich kann beruhigen, dass man sehr schnell durch die Engine navigiert und dort landet wo man hin möchte. Durch den touchscreen und die 6 potis die seitlich am selbigen positioniert sind habe ich nie das Gefühl Menu Diving zu betreiben und es fühlt sich dennoch Hands On an.

Wem der große Iridium zu massiv ist, wird hier fündig. Uneingeschränkte Empfehlung!
