IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII

These speakers sound much bigger than they are, and that comes with a price, unfortunately. I AB'd them with a pair og Genelec 8020's - and while their definition in the highmids and treble are very comparable, the iLouds just don't handle lowend very well imo.

Even if the the switch on the back is set to falloff at 60 hz they are still fairly muddy and boomy sounding. I tried the 4 point arc system as well, and although it helped a little bit, I still wasn't as satisfied as with the 8020's.

The iLouds does suffer from port chuffing with songs that are bass heavy, Like for example James Blake - Limit to your love. That's even if I adjusted the EQ on the back to either 50 hz or 60 hz. I know that they aren't made to handle huge amounts of lowend having small drivers, but it sucks hearing that chuffing from the bassport.

Still the iLouds sounds incredible for their size, and handle less bass heavy genres with ease.

The thing that annoy me the most about the speakers is the built quality - Although made of tough plastic, they still feel toylike, scratches super easily and your fingerprints will be all over them + mine attracted dust so quickly - static I believe. The included feet or table stands wasn't very great feeling either.

The imaging of the iLouds was fine, but having a very narrow sweet spot imo - the 8020's are much better in that regard. In general the 8020's just seems like much more refined speakers in terms of build quality, imaging and sound presentation. It's a matter of taste, of course. But given the price they left me with much to be desired.

After years of working in different studios and using a wide range of studio monitors, I recently found myself in a completely new situation—moving into a house in Portugal that is far from an ideal acoustic environment for music production. Despite this, I’m already finishing my next project here, and to my surprise, I’m achieving great sound and clarity without a fully treated room.

Of course, experience plays a big role, but what really impressed me is the quality of these monitors for the price. The level of detail, the balanced frequency response, and most importantly, the ability to tweak the settings to match the room’s characteristics make them incredibly versatile.

I wasn’t expecting such precision and depth in this price range, but these monitors have exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for reliable, adaptable, and well-balanced speakers that can handle different acoustic environments, I’d definitely recommend checking them out.

After using the iLoud Micro Monitors for a long time, I decided to upgrade to the iLoud MTM MKII—and it honestly feels like I’ve unlocked a whole new level of clarity and inspiration in my setup.

These monitors deliver an impressive sense of depth, tight low-end, and detailed stereo imaging that I wasn’t getting before. Even without using ARC (I didn’t run the calibration), they still sound incredibly balanced in my untreated room. The bass is focused and punchy, yet controlled—something that really helps when building grooves or checking mixes.

What makes them special to me is how they helped me reconnect with music after a long period of creative stagnation. I’ve been slowly rebuilding my routine, from daily piano practice to working on synth ideas again, and these monitors have made that process smoother and more enjoyable. I trust what I hear, which helps me stay in the flow instead of second-guessing every sound.

They’re compact, easy to place, and surprisingly powerful for their size. If you’re upgrading from smaller monitors like the iLoud Micro, you’ll immediately feel the difference. For me, it was the right move—and a motivating one.
