I was looking for a shaker that is loud enough so it can be played besides a jew's harp.
Based on the reviews this one seemed to be the loudest and I can confirm, it is very loud. Actually too loud for this pair.
Besides that, it has a strong, scratchy sound, I think it is perfect for sharp percussion sounds.
I bought this shaker to put over the snare drum and cymbals, to modify their sound. Among the Terré shakers , the juju beans are the ones with the loudest and most piercing sound. It?s very effective when placed over the hi-hat.
This ankle shaker has a slightly darker sound than the other version i think. I use it with either a cajon or some other shakers like caxixi's. I like that the sound is a bit lower so it is clearly different from the other sounds that i use. The ankle shaker has a neat finish and seems sturdy enough. I would definetly recommend this ankle shaker.
