I first used this on one of my headliner bands on the violinist. Already during soundcheck I was happy by the quality of the sound. For mounting I ended up using a modified Rode Violin clip instead of the included goose-neck & clip as this was preferred by the violinist. Consequently, I bought a second one to use on violins or cello, with equal great quality results.
I have not yet listened to it on a studio recording, but for live use I can highly recommend this mic.
This mic is excellent!!! I have used it on Flute, Violin, Drums to name a few and it performs brilliantly. Side by side with DPA I would pick this one for the gigs I do, they are often really loud and this Audio Technica has a much higher tolerance/rejection to sound. Very little feedback and is really durable, it will last much longer than other mics in its class. If it ever breaks I'll buy another one!
I bought this microphone after years using a terrible-sounding piezo on my doublebass: the sound of the pizzicato was "ok" but the arco was not.
I tried the audio technica and I was surprised by the quality on this product: both pizzicato and arco sound amazing and very natural, and very little feedback issues. I put four stars on the features cause the standard clip on the doublebass is not the best thing, and I think I'll buy the doublebass adapter; overall is perfect and I'm curious about trying it on an acoustic bass amp.
Worth buying it!
