Bref, super rapport qualité-prix
I think if you want the large diaphragm dynamic sound but don't want to pay for SM7 or equivalent then this is an excellent choice.
Will give your vocals a lot of weight and body with a smooth top end that doesn't ever really get whiney no matter how hard you push it. I'm sure it would be great for podcasting.
However in my experience it's not great for my voice and I'm having to heavily EQ sculpt anything I record in order to flatten out the freq response. But if you have a thin voice I could see this being just the thing to add weight and depth.
Build quality doesn't feel all that great. The cradle hardly holds onto the mic and a nudge of the mic stand can send the mic crashing out of the cradle. And while the magnetic pop shield looks great and is a neat idea, its a less effective pop shield than a sock and often doesn't prevent the plosives.
So a bit of a mixed bag but for the money I'm still happy with it. Definitely an interesting mic to have in the bag of tricks.
I am inexperienced in recording. Going for an XLR mic seemed to be a better option than USB for quality. I took a leap of faith for Aston and I wasn't disapointed. Side effect is, need to put sound proofing up to get rid of the echo for piano recordings, voice recordings I seem to get away with it.
