Absolutely love this thing, really great on any vocal but especially harsh/metal vocals. Great feedback rejection and out of all the mics I've tried it takes being cupped by vocalists really well,
Also great on snare top and probably any other source on the stage if I try it!
It's a weighty tank of a microphone that feels and looks great, can for sure take some punishment but for the price I only let people I trust use it!
I own a whole bunch of handheld live vocal mics and the Telefunken M80 is my new favorite!
The sound of it is very crisp and clear which nicely offsets the proximity effect. The supercardioid polar pattern works great for combating bleed. I've recently recorded a live show with my hard rock band and the recording engineer was impressed with the level of isolation from the other sound sources on stage.
The microphone appears very rugged. I haven't had any dropping accidents yet, so I can't comment on how resilient it is to mechanical shocks, but it seems quite sturdy and I expect it could endure some abuse (that I don't intend to put it through intentionally :D)
M80 catches more details than other dynamic mics, but rejection is still good. I just mixed the live album and the singer was enthusiastic about the vocal sound we have got with just a bit of processing.
Maybe a bit heavy for a handheld, but I like that, it brings confidence.
